Invited by prof. Shawn Marsh, Ph.D. of LCCC and LCCC International Initiatives, Dimitrije Stanojevic, M.A. presented on the topic Icons in the Orthodox Church: Means of the Interpretation of the Bible.
Icon interprets Biblical events for everyone (or almost everyone). This is the way the Church includes as many people as possible to engage with the Gospel message and the understanding of the Scriptures.
Icons gather the texts from the Old Testament and from the New Testament and engage in their interpretation. This interpretation is pictorial and understandable to everyone. “One picture is worth a thousand words” as the famous saying says. One icon is worth many pages of the interpretation written by the Holy Fathers.
Icons represent HEAVENLY REALITY, SPIRITUAL REALITY, THEY DEPICT LIVES! Icons depict our dignity and always remind us that we are called to have our icons written. Icons depict eternity!
