The 2018 Student Religious Studies Conference, February 2, 2018, Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame (South Bend), Indiana. Read a paper: The Theological Consonance of the Servant Songs of the Book of Isaiah (Isa 42:1-9, 49:1-13, 50:4-11, 52:13-53:12).

Abstract:

The Servant Songs of the book of Isaiah (Isa. 42:1-9, 49:1-13, 50:4-11, 52:13-53:12) were highly discussed passages throughout the history from both literal and interpretational perspectives. In this paper, in the light of intertextual interpretation, I suggest the exegesis of these passages that Jesus himself proposed in words: “For what is written about me has its fulfillment” (Lk. 22:37). Consequently, as a Serbian Orthodox Christian, I will argue that the Servant’s understanding should be centered around the one who offered the life to the world and the one who himself voluntarily became an offering for the salvation of creation. The Servant – Jesus.
