In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit!
Reverend Fathers, dear brothers, and Sisters, Christ is Risen!
Standing in the light of Resurrection, we continue the celebration of the Feast of the Feasts. Today Church celebrates the Myrrh Bearing Women. This feast day teaches us how and why to bring our possession and gifts back to God.
The Gospel of St. Mark says, “very early on the first day of the week, when the sun had risen” (Mark) pious women brought the spices to anoint Jesus’ body. They were ready to act first thing in the morning when the day breaks. This means that they prepared last night or the day before. Preparation in advance to meet the Lord is important for it brings meaning and focuses to our lives. They were not afraid of the authorities, and the soldiers who were set to guard the tomb. Only, they had one concern- who will remove the rock from the tomb.
The myrrh-bearing women were ready to sacrifice what they have to honor Christ. This sacrifice from heart brought them up to the empty tomb and the angel. The angel had a message for them: ”Do not be afraid. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen; he is not here. See the place where they laid him. But go, tell his disciples” (Mark).
Saint Mardarije and Saint Sava were focused on the preparation to meet Christ and bring him back the gifts they received from the Holy Spirit. Preparation thus takes night and day, weeks, months and years, the entire life to perfect the gifts and talents, and present them to the Lord. Pure giving and sacrificial heart is the heart that will be able to receive the divine interventions, surprises, and meaningful life, the life everlasting.
Let us bring to the risen Lord what we have.
Let us hear the angel and let us not be afraid.
Let us rejoice in the Resurrection of the Lord and give thanks to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen!
